The victim of a Sunday afternoon wreck has been identified as a Lauderdale County man who had recently moved to the area, authorities said.

Officials with the Quad-Cities State Troopers Post said 24-year-old Scott Anthony Chadwell died in the accident that happened about 6 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Alabama 20 and Cox Creek Parkway. Reports indicate Chadwell lived on Lauderdale 5, south of Alabama 20.

Chadwell was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by his brother, 23-year-old Bradley Chadwell, Lauderdale 5, Florence.

Witnesses said the pickup was on Alabama 20 and attempting to turn left onto Cox Creek Parkway when the car turned into the path of a southbound tractor trailer.

The impact shoved the pickup into a nearby culvert.

"He was dead instantly," said Lauderdale County Coroner Andy High, who pronounced Scott Chadwell dead at the scene.

High said Scott Chadwell died from internal injuries.

Bradley Chadwell was flown from the scene by AirEvac to Huntsville Hospital.

Hospital officials said late Monday afternoon that Bradley Chadwell's condition had been upgraded to serious, but he remained in the medical facility's surgical intensive care unit.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 49-year-old Kenny Rich, of Huntington, Tenn., was not injured, according to reports.

Emergency personnel said the Chadwells had recently moved to the area. The truck they were in had an Oregon license plate.

The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Department of Public Safety's Quad-Cities State Troopers Post.
