17 students compete for Miss UNA title

Miss Alabama Anna Laura Bryan will emcee the Miss UNA pagent.

FLORENCE — Seventeen young women are competing for the title of Miss UNA.

The pageant will be at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norton Auditorium on the University of North Alabama campus. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Emcee is Anna Laura Bryan, Miss Alabama. The UNA jazz band will serve as orchestra .

The winner will received a customized ring she designed at Creative Jewelers in Florence. And crowning the new queen will be the current Miss UNA, Anne-Marie Hall.

Contestants include:

Emma Renee Armstrong — A freshman, of Montgomery, majoring in biology and Spanish. Her talent is a theatrical voice performance, and her platform is A Firm Foundation.

Lauren Blue — A freshman, of Madison, majoring in business management. Her talent is contemporary dance, and her platform is the National Dance Association’s “Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle through Dance.”

D’Aria Booker — A senior, of Huntsville, majoring in elementary education with a P-3 certification. Her talent is a vocal, “Stand Up for Love,” and her platform is “Where is the Love?”

Kaitlin Chappell — A junior, of Cullman, majoring in broadcast journalism. Her talent is a James Bond-themed acro jazz dance, and her platform is the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Eboney Curtis — A freshman, of Birmingham, majoring in mass communication. Her talent is a vocal, “Make You Feel My Love,” and her platform is “Hand and Hand Making a Change.”

Jaleesa Diggins — A senior, of Greensboro, majoring in radio and television interactive media. Her talent is an instrumental, “Halo,” by Beyonce on alto saxophone, and her platform is TRUEoriginals.

Samantha Hammond — A sophomore, of Lexington, majoring in secondary education and English language arts. Her talent is a vocal, and her platform is “Human Trafficking — Uncovering a Faceless Community.”

Meredith Hamner — A freshman, of Killen, majoring in music education. Her talent is a vocal, “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and her platform is “Motivating, Understanding and Sharing Individual Talents.”

Brittany Jordan — A senior, of Florence, majoring in merchandising. Her talent is a dramatic monologue, “Caged Bird,” by Maya Angelou, and her platform is “Volunteerism — The Difference is You.”

Anne Marie Russ — A senior, of Florence, majoring in business administration and public relations. Her talent is a sign language interpretation, and her platform is the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association.

Allison Shelton — A junior, of Rothselberg, Germany, majoring in nursing. Her talent is a vocal and instrumental, and her platform is the fight against childhood obesity.

Avy Stransbury — A junior, of Danville, majoring in accounting. Her talent is a piano performance, “Moonlight Fantasy,” and her platform is “I Wear Pink,” promoting breast cancer awareness and education.

Rachel Wammack — A freshman, of Muscle Shoals, majoring in commercial music. Her talent is a vocal and marimba performance, and her platform is “Make Poverty History.”

Emily Winkler — A freshman, of Dora, majoring in elementary education. Her talent is a classical piano performance, and her platform is Heart to Heart.

Jessica Wood — Majoring in business marketing, she is from Cullman. Her talent is a vocal, “Hopelessly Devoted,” by Olivia Newton John, and her platform is Healthy Hearts.

Terri Wright — A sophomore, of Florence, majoring in secondary education and English language arts. Her talent is a dance, “One Moment More,” and her platform is breast cancer education and awareness.

Chelsea Yarber — A freshman, Muscle Shoals, majoring in public relations. Her talent is a vocal, “The Prayer,” and her platform is “Anchor Me, But Don’t Hold Me Down.”
