By Tom Smith

SHEFFIELD — Five people, including a child, were injured tonight in a two-car wreck, officials said.

Three people, including the child, were taken to Helen Keller Hospital, officials said. The other two people were taken to Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals. The conditions of the people taken to the hospitals are not known.

Emergency personnel at the scene said the wreck happened at the intersection of South Montgomery Avenue and South Jackson Highway near the Fuel City convenience store and a short distance from Helen Keller Hospital.

It was called in at 8:37 p.m. according to officials with Colbert County 911.

Authorities at the scene said one car was traveling south on South Montgomery Avenue while another car was traveling north on South Montgomery Avenue, attempting to turn east on South Jackson Highway.

State troopers from the Quad-Cities post are investigating.
