5A final: Poe directs Spanish Fort over McAdory 45-14

AUBURN (AP) — Spanish Fort quarterback Joel Poe threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in the Toros' 45-14 victory over previously undefeated McAdory in the AHSAA Class 5A state championship game Thursday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Poe, the game's MVP, finished 17 of 24 for 177 yards and ran eight times for 33 yards. His first scoring toss came on the first play of the second quarter when he hit Devonte Patrick for an 18-yard touchdown.

His final two TD throws changed a convincing win to a blowout, as he found Patrick and Jonathan Cook for scores in a stretch of 1:47 spanning the third and fourth quarters for a 38-7 lead. Poe added another touchdown on a 10-yard run with 8:30 remaining.

Samuel Tolbert carried the ball 12 times for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Toros (14-1).

Quarterback Kyran Moore accounted for both scores for McAdory (14-1).
