n Rebecca Freeman, daughter of Jerry and Rhonda Freeman, received the Howell and Elizabeth Heflin Endowed Scholarship in recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement. A 2005 graduate of Muscle Shoals High School, she will be a freshman at the University of Alabama.
n Ben Olive, of Florence, received the Marshall J. Conner Endowed Scholarship from Auburn University's College of Architecture, Design and Construction, based on academics and community involvement.
n Carolyn Myers, a graduate of Muscle Shoals High School, received an academic scholarship from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Jeannine Hendon Memorial Scholarship. She was drum major, band president, co-founder and president of Students Against Destructive Decisions and vice president of National Honor Society and drama club. She was a member of Scholars Bowl and Mu Alpha Theta. She was Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship nominee, Girls State representative (winning city and state office and good citizenship award), who's who best leader and member of coronation court. She received the John Phillips Sousa band award and was class salutatorian. She was in several honor bands, including Red Band at All-State. At UAB, she will major in psychology. She is the daughter of John and Cathy Wood Pitts, Muscle Shoals, and Randy and Karen Myers, Tuscumbia.
n Summer Congleton, a graduate of Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, received a cheerleading scholarship to Northwest-Shoals Community College. She was head and All-Star cheerleader, student council officer and member of track team, National Honor Society, drama club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Who's Who Among American High School Students and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She was a senior favorite and was active in community service. She is the daughter of Jamey Congleton and Susie McGee.
n Marty Jones, a student at Florence High School, had the top score in the area-wide competitive chemistry exam sponsored by the Wilson Dam Section of the American Chemical Society. He received the Franklin A. Lenfesty Award. Christopher Ray, Florence High School, won second. Darin Belue, Muscle Shoals High School, and David Burgess, Florence High School, tied for third. He is a Boys State representative and will attend FBLA national conference and Business Capstone Academy at the University of Alabama. n Paul McDonald, a 2005 graduate of Brooks High School in Killen, received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York. He was a member of National Honor Society, Peers for Life and track and cross country teams. He is the son of Steve and Edith McDonald, of Killen.
n Keslie Rea, a senior at Covenant Christian School in Tuscumbia, is attending Girls State at Troy University. She is an honor student and a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students, National Honor Rolls, National Honor Society, prom committee and volleyball team. n Andrew Garfrerick, a graduate of Florence High School, accepted a 2005 President's Scholarship to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he will study industrial engineering. He also received North Alabama Georgia Tech Alumni, National Merit and Robert C. Byrd Honors scholarships. He was a member of the All-State Academic Team sponsored by the Birmingham Post-Herald and was first in his graduating class. Among other academic honors, he received the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals' Academic Honors Award. He is also an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. Parker III, of Tuscumbia, a student at Deshler High School, received scholarships from the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship program. They were chosen based on maintaining at least a 2.75 cumulative grade-point average, overcoming an obstacle and demonstrating accomplishments in talent, leadership and community service.
