Alabama holds off Texas Tech rally
From staff reports

LUBBOCK, Texas — Alabama stopped a three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 66-62 win at Texas Tech but not before watching a 20-point lead nearly evaporate.

The Crimson Tide led 55-35 with 12:04 to play before Tech steadily trimmed the advantage. With 1:14 to play, the Red Raiders cut it to 63-61 on Ty Nurse’s 3-pointer. But Levi Randolph sank a basket, and Trevor Releford added a foul shot to hold off the Tech rally.

“We’ll take it,” Alabama coach Anthony Grant said.

“The second half wasn’t what we drew up, but we’re happy with the win.”

Releford played 39 minutes and had 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Trevor Lacey had a team-high 21 points and six rebounds.

“I thought those guys were aggressive and locked in,” Grant said. “I think in the second half, maybe fatigue set in. ... But I’m really proud of the effort they gave in the minutes they played.”

Moussa Gueye, a 7-foot-0 junior, came off the bench to play 11 minutes and didn’t score. But he grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Texas Tech super-sub Jaye Crockett, the nation’s top-scoring reserve, finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes on the floor.

Alabama (7-3) will host Mercer on Saturday at 1 p.m.
