Alabama loses out on defensive back

Alabama confirmed it has received the paperwork on two more recruits, but the Crimson Tide has lost out on a defensive back out of Mississippi this morning.

Alabama lists North Little Rock (Ark.) High running back Altee Tenpenny and California long-snapper Cole Mazza as its 18th and 19th signees for its 2013 class.

Defensive back Antonio Conner of South Panola High in Batesville, Miss., announced on ESPNU this morning he has chosen Ole Miss over Alabama.

Rivals.com ranks Conner as the second-best player in Mississippi and the No. 11 defensive back in the country.

Ole Miss was considered a favorite for him, but the Crimson Tide made a push.

Tenpenny rushed for 1,379 yards on 193 carries with 21 touchdowns. At 6-foot-0, 212 pounds, he is built a little like Eddie Lacy, the former All-SEC running back.

Tenpenny is accustomed to Alabama's style of sharing carries among two running backs. Tenpenny shared rushing attempts at North Little Rock with Juan Day, a junior who has committed to Arkansas.

Mazza is from Liberty High in Bakersfield, Calif., who can replace long-snapper Carson Tinker, a three-year starter who has graduated.

Mazza generally is regarded as the nation's top long-snapper.
