FLORENCE — Applications are being accepted for the Keep the Shoals Beautiful Scholarship, sponsored by the Shoals Chamber of Commerce.

The $500 general scholarships will be awarded to one high school and one college student.

Students applicants must be registered in an accredited institution and must be a member of the Keep the Shoals Beautiful organization. Membership for students is $5. Applications are available online at keeptheshoalsbeautiful.com. The website also contains a scholarship application link which can be submitted online, mailed or delivered to the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, 20 Hightower Place, Florence.

The applicant must demonstrate initiative and participate in community service projects that promote a clean and green environment. Also required is a 1,000-word, typed essay titled, “What I Have Done to Keep the Shoals Beautiful.” The essay and application are due no later than April 1.

The scholarship will be paid in full during the month of April.
