FLORENCE — Residents wanting to participate in the Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama’s annual garden program can start applying Monday.
The application process will continue through March 15, said Tammy McDaniel, director of the Community Action Agency.
Applications will be taken by phone from 1-4 p.m. weekdays.
The program supplies free garden seeds, plants and fertilizer to eligible residents in Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties.
Participants must have a gross monthly income of less than $1,396 for a single household, $1,891 for a two-person household and $2,386 for a three-person household. McDaniel said the total rises $495 per month for each additional person in the household.
Residents in Colbert and Lauderdale counties may call 256-386-2976 to apply for the program, and Franklin County residents may call 256-332-7534.
PADUCAH, Ky. — Lawmakers met Tuesday with the Corps of Engineers to discuss alternatives to closing the waters to fishing directly above and below 10 dams on the Cumberland River. The corps said the action is needed for safety.
