'Awaken' prayer conference set
Staff reports

FLORENCE — Highland Baptist Church will host the second annual “Awaken” prayer conference.

The event, which is set for Friday and Saturday, March 9, features speakers from across the south in the areas of prayer and spiritual awakening.

Conference organizers said the positive comments after the 2012 event were overwhelming, reinforcing the need to make it an annual prayer event.

Baptists across the state are setting aside a day of prayer in conjunction with the conference. “Pray Across Alabama” has been scheduled for each county in the state and will be held on courthouse steps.

The day of prayer in the Shoals will be Friday, with prayer at 11:30 a.m. at the Lauderdale County Courthouse in downtown Florence, and 12:30 p.m. at Colbert County Courthouse in downtown Tuscumbia.

“Praying Across Alabama” is described as a 60-day journey of seeking God through prayer for revival and spiritual awakening.

On Friday, the conference will be 6:15-9 p.m. at Highland.

The conference resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday and continues until 12:30 p.m.

Keynote speakers are Chuck Lawless, John Franklin, Claude King and Greg Frizzell.

Lawless has studied and written much in the areas of spiritual awakening and spiritual warfare.

Franklin is a nationally known speaker in the area of prayer and spiritual awakening.

King is an author, speaker, consultant and leader with an emphasis on helping God’s people obey Christ’s final command to make disciples of all nations.

Frizzell serves as the prayer and spiritual awakening specialist for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

Other speakers and presenters throughout the two-day conference include John G. Brock, Brian Fischer, Elaine Helms, Leighann McCoy, Dusty McLemore and Thomas Wright.

A dinner for pastors and spouses featuring King will be Friday night. The cost is $5 and reservations are required by Monday by calling 256-383-7021.

Conference tickets are $10 and available at the church, 219 Simpson St., Lifeway Christian Bookstore, 396 Cox Creek Parkway, both in Florence; and the Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association, 3901 Hatch Blvd. Sheffield.

Tickets also will be available at the door on Friday night and Saturday morning.

For details, call the church at 256-764-1392.
