Bobcats advance to Franklin title game

Phil Campbell advanced to the finals of the Franklin County boys tournament with a 69-46 victory over Tharptown on Friday night.

The win gives the Bobcats a championship game berth against Red Bay tonight

The Wildcats took an early 15-10 lead before Phil Campbell took control in the second quarter. A 22-11 run put the Bobcats ahead 32-26 at the half and Tharptown could never catch up.

Colton Vickery led three Phil Campbell players in double figures with 17 points. Skeeter Benford added 13 points while Haydon Bell had 12 for the game.

Austin Gray had 12 points while Kelby Hallmark scored 11 points to lead Tharptown.

Colbert Heights 54, Covenant Christian 44: Colbert Heights used big scoring runs in the first and fourth quarters to secure a win at Covenant Christian.

Jeffery Mitchell and Tyran Rea scored 15 points each to lead the Wildcats. Kaleb Suggs added eight points and 17 rebounds.

After opening the game with an 11-2 spurt, Colbert Heights led 24-18 at the half. Covenant Christian, however, used a 13-6 run to take a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth period. The Wildcats turned to its full-court pressure to create turnovers and easy baskets to regain control down the stretch.

Sam Griffin scored a game-high 18 points for Covenant Christian. Ty Brown added 12 points for the Eagles.

Phillips 76, Hubbertville 44: Rodney Camp and Tyler Crumpton combined for 40 points as Phillips routed Hubbertville.

Camp scored 21 points while Crumpton added 19. Jake Bonner added 12 points.

Sheffield 65, Colbert County 59: After taking a 50-38 lead into the fourth quarter, Sheffield held off a late Colbert County rally to post a 65-59 home win.

Three players reached double figures for the Bulldogs, including Hunter Danley’s game-high 22 points. Simon Ridgeway added 17 points while Noah Ridgeway had 10.

Tyler Lott paced the Indians’ comeback attempt with 14 points and Sam Howard had 11.

Shoals Christian 57, Athens Bible 46: Shoals Christian overcame a slow start to come away with a 57-46 home win over Athens Bible. The win gives the Flame a 10-10 record on the year, including a 4-3 mark in area play.

After scoring just six points in the opening quarter, the Flame used a 21-point showing in the second to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.

Will Bishop connected on a pair of three-point baskets and finished with 14 points to lead Shoals Christian (10-10, 4-3). Tanner Bozeman also reached double figures with 11 points.

Deshler 71, Clements 59: Deshler withstood a late Clements rally to hold on for a 71-59 road in area play.

Thomas Gamble scored 20 points as the Tigers climbed above the .500 mark for the season at 10-9.

Deshler led 34-18 at the half and held a 38-18 advantage early in the third quarter before the Colts began to chip away at the lead. Consecutive three-pointers started the rally as Clements closed the gap to five points midway Chandler Brown added 14 points while BJ Bailey tossed in 11 and Brandon Creasy had 10.

Collinwood 61, Loretto 47: Collinwood used a big third period to rally past Loretto.

The Trojans trailed 22-15 at halftime. Kelby Ray hit a pair of 3-pointers to start the Collinwood rally and Logan Montgomery added 12 points as the Trojans outscored Loretto 27-8 to take a 42-30 lead into the final period.

Montgomery finished with four 3-pointers and 24 points. Wesley Pigg added 11 points for the Trojans (11-5, 5-0 district). Lane Myhan paced Loretto with 20 points.

Wayne County 70, Frank Hughes 37: Wayne County had five players score in double figures as the Wildcats cruised past Frank Hughes.

Zack Risner led Wayne County (7-10, 3-2) with 14 points, followed by Keeton Kelly with 13 and Jaylen Bevis with 11, while Carson Kelly and Sawyer Ray scored 10 points each. Matt Lineberry led Frank Hughes with 17 points.

Girls

Deshler 60, Clements 57: Fourth-ranked Deshler rallied from a 20-point third-quarter deficit to edge Clements on the road.

Keyonda Mason scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Tigers (16-5). Clements hit five three-pointers in the first quarter and built a 33-23 lead by the half. An 11-1 spurt in the opening two minute of the third quarter gave the Colts a 44-34 advantage before the Deshler comeback. Lauren Cantrell and Layken Coman added 10 points each for the Tigers. Daneshia Malone had 21 points for Clements.

Shoals Christian 44, Athens Bible 31: After trailing 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, Shoals Christian used a 17-5 second-quarter run to take control en route to a 44-31 victory over Athens Bible.

Lacey Lindley hit four three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 23 points to lead the Flame (6-12, 4-2).

Colbert County 51, Sheffield 30: Colbert County held Sheffield to 11 points in the second half as the Indians pulled away to earn the win.

Mya Newsome led Colbert County with 20 points and Kadeja Cheatom scored 10. Sumerlin Orrick paced Sheffield with nine points.

Covenant Christian 52, Colbert Heights 28: Covenant Christian opened up a 25-12 halftime lead en route to a victory over Colbert Heights.

Anna Claire Noblit scored 18 points and Bailey Hill had 14 to lead the Eagles (19-3). Destinee Pratt and Kelsey Robinette scored six points each for the Wildcats.

Loretto 69, Collinwood 61: Loretto build a 20-point lead in the second half and held off a late rally by Collinwood to defeat the Trojans.

The Mustangs put it away by making 17 of 21 free throws in the fourth period.

Ashley Johns hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points for Loretto. Savrie Sirmones added 20 and Rachel Burden 14 for the Mustangs. Alexis Haddock scored 27 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 32 points for Collinwood (13-3, 4-1), while Hannah Littrell added 12 points.

Wayne County 44, Frank Hughes 32: Stacey Creecy finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds to spark Wayne County past Frank Hughes.

Haley Inman added 10 points for the Wildcats (7-12, 2-3). Haley Morris scored 10 points for Frank Hughes.
