BARTON -- The bodies of a child and an adult were recovered at noon today from a house on Mulberry Lane after firefighters extinguished a blaze at the home.

A 9-year-old girl was flown to UAB this morning and two adults were treated at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. Authorities were told that as many five people may have been in the home and began a search of home's remains after they extinguished the fire.

No names have been released, though reports indicate the child who perished is a 6-year-old boy. Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utly responded to the scene.

The fire at the single-story home was reported around 6:30 this morning. Barton firefighters were assisted by three other volunteer departments.
