Eddie Murphy was arrested today by Colbert County officials and charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of his older brother.

TUSCUMBIA — A Colbert County man has been charged in connection with the Tuesday afternoon shooting of his older brother, officials said.

Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May said Eddie Murphy, 57, 6980 Buddy Durham Road, Cherokee, is charged attempt to commit murder and is being held in the county jail on bail of $50,000.

Authorities said Murphy was arrested this afternoon after investigators talked with members of the district attorney’s office.

Murphy is accused of shooting his older brother, Steve Murphy, 63, Mount Mills Road, Barton, during an argument Tuesday afternoon at their mother’s home at 7230 Buddy Durham Road.

May said Steve Murphy was shot three times with a .22-caliber pistol and was flown to Northeast Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss. May said Steve Murphy is improving and investigators have been able to talk with him.

Authorities said the shooting was the result of an argument over the handling of their mother’s money.

May said the mother is in a nursing home.
