FLORENCE — The brother of a man accused of killing a man in 2000 is expected to testify today in the second day of testimony in the murder trial of Alfred Shawn Johnson.
Courthouse officials said Shannon Johnson, of Florence, who also was charged with murder at the time of his arrest in 2011, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a 20-year sentence. As a part of his plea agreement, he agreed to testify against his brother.
Shawn Johnson, also of Florence, was arrested in 2011 and charged in the beating death of Keith Barnett.
Barnett, 22, was found lying unconscious on Alabama 17 in Lauderdale County, just south of the Tennessee state line.
Testimony on Tuesday indicated that Barnett was beaten by the Johnson brothers at a bar in Tennessee and his body was placed in the roadway.
The case is being heard in the fifth floor courtroom by Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Gil Self.
Shawn Johnson faces life in prison if convicted of murder.
