TOWN CREEK — An adult and juvenile who tried to break into a Hazlewood Elementary School safe but became thirsty after repeated failed attempts and took something to drink from the snack room instead, are charged with burglary, officials said.
James Terry Reeves, 20, 28 Sanderson Lane Lot 8, Courtland, and a 15-year-old Town Creek boy are each charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree theft of property and second-degree criminal mischief, Town Creek Police Chief Jerry Garrett said. He said the teenager lives less than 50 feet from the school.
They are accused of breaking into the elementary school late Saturday night by breaking a glass window.
Garrett said they were inside the school for more than two hours but never could break open the safe.
Garrett said the burglars took a few items, including a laptop computer. He said they went into the snack room and got something drink.
