Central rallies to win
Mace scores a dozen in OT victory

Central rallied from five points down in the final minute to force overtime and went on to a 53-51 victory at Colbert Heights in boys basketball action Monday.

Andrew Mace converted a three-point play for the Wildcats to force the overtime. Central made some clutch free throws in overtime to earn the victory.

Mace led Central (5-15) with 12 points. Kaleb Suggs totaled a game-high 22 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocked shots for Colbert Heights, but his 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime rattled out. Jeffrey Mitchell added 10 points for Colbert Heights (11-8).

Wilson 67, Loretto 45: Wilson took control with a big second period en route to a win at Loretto.

The Warriors outscored the Mustangs 24-9 in the second period to take a 36-15 lead into halftime. Bradley Talley hit three consecutive 3-pointers to spark the Warriors to the big lead.

Kenneth Henry led Wilson (10-14) with 17 points. Pate Wear had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Wilson and Austen Oakley scored 10 points. Andrew Shelton and Miles Burkes scored 11 points each for Loretto.

Lexington 46, Rogers 42: Wade McNutt scored a game-high 15 points for Lexington as it held off Rogers.

The Golden Bears (6-10) held the Pirates to 12 first-half points and built a 35-20 lead after three quarters but were outscored 22-11 in the fourth.

Latham Thompson scored 13 points to lead Rogers, while Caleb Morrow added 11.

Brooks 65, East Lawrence 52: Canaan Sides had a double-double for Brooks in a Class 4A, Area 16 win.

Sides finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Holden Corum scored a team-high 18 points for the Lions (18-5, 4-1). Brady Bedingfield sank three 3-pointers and had 13 points.

Cameron Garner led all scorers with 19 for East Lawrence.

After Central tonight, Brooks faces a Friday game at Haleyville that could decide the area's top seed.

Oneonta 49, Lauderdale County 43: Lauderdale County was unable to make an early lead hold up as the Tigers lost to Oneonta.

Nathaniel McCafferty led LCHS with 18 points. Steadman Bothwell scored 14 for Oneonta.

Phillips 54, Hamilton 44: Phillips outscored Hamilton 18-6 in the fourth period to rally for a win in the opening round of the Marion County tournament at Guin.

Rodney Camp and Jake Bonner scored 13 points each for the Bears (17-5). Tyler Crumpton added 12 points and Jacob Feltman had 10 for Phillips, which will play Brilliant in Thursday's semifinal round.

Charles Metcalf paced Hamilton with 12 points.

Summertown 72, Collinwood 68: Hunter Andrews sank four 3s and scored a team-high 20 points for Collinwood, but Summertown held off the Trojans.

Kelby Ray added 18 points and made three 3s for Collinwood (13-6, 5-1 district).

Luke Scott led three Summertown scorers in double figures with a game-high 26 points.

Girls

Oneonta 41, Lauderdale County 39: Oneonta used a big fourth period to edge Lauderdale County in a matchup of No. 1 teams.

LCHS, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, outscored the Redskins 20-2 in the third period to take a 31-25 lead. The Tigers led by six midway through the final period when Oneonta hit three consecutive 3-pointers to take the lead for good. The Tigers cut the lead to one, but could not regain the lead and missed a desperation shot at the buzzer

Emma Wallen led LCHS (22-4) with 11 points. Abby Blackwood led Oneonta (21-3), the No. 1 team in Class 4A, with 18 points.

Lexington 55, Rogers 29: Haven Albright and Sydney Corum combined for eight 3-pointers to lead Lexington past Rogers.

Albright hit four of her five treys in the first half to help Lexington take a 26-14 lead into halftime. The Golden Bears led 43-24 after three periods.

Albright finished with 24 points and five assists to lead Lexington (19-6), while Corum scored 13 points. Maggie Green hit 8 of 8 free throws and finished with 14 points to lead Rogers.

Loretto 59, Wilson 56: Loretto hit 12 of 14 free throws in the two overtime periods to edge Wilson.

The Warriors forced the first overtime when Ciarra Edwards hit a 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds remaining. Brianna Terrell then hit a trey in the final seconds of overtime to force the second extra period.

Edwards finished with 20 points and Terrell had 17 for Wilson. Rachel Burden led Loretto with 18 points.

Collinwood 73, Summertown 60: Alexis Haddock scored 14 points in the fourth period to lead Collinwood past Summertown.

Haddock hit 10 of 10 free throws in the final period and finished with 21 points. Lexie Risner led the Trojans with 23 points. Morgan Long paced Summertown with 18 points.
