The Valdosta State and Winston-Salem State football teams are scheduled to arrive in the Shoals tonight to prepare for Saturday’s NCAA Division II National Championship Game.
Winston-Salem is flying into the Shoals and is expected to land at the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport around 7:30 p.m., where they will receive a police escort to the Coldwater Inn in Tuscumbia.
Valdosta is traveling by bus and should arrive at the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa in Florence around 9 p.m.
The teams meet at noon at Braly Stadium in Florence in a game that will be televised live by ESPN2.
Mitch Dobbins, of the Shoals National Championship Committee, said each school received 1,000 tickets. In addition, tickets are available by calling the Shoals Chamber of Commerce at 256-764-4661. Tickets also are available at the gate.
The cost is $25 and all tickets are general admission.
Dobbins said sales are going well at both schools.
“I have heard from both schools that there is a lot of excitement,” Dobbins said. “This being Winston-Salem’s first championship game, it’s exciting for them and exciting for us, as well.”
