Dylan Harris scored 24 points to lead Cherokee to a 54-49 victory over Waterloo in boys basketball action Thursday.
The game was tied at 38 after three periods, but Cherokee pulled away in the final minutes.
Jeffrey Patrick had 10 points for Cherokee (2-0) while Wayne Darby led Waterloo (0-1)with 18.
n Phil Campbell 49, Danville 42: Skeeter Benford sank five 3-pointers to spark Phil Campbell to a season-opening win.
Benford finished with a game-high 22 points for the Bobcats and Colton Vickery added 14.
n Wayne County 53, Hickman County 52: Jaylen Beevis hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to lift Wayne County to a victory over Hickman County.
Beevis, Carson Kelly and Zack Risner each had 13 point for Wayne County (2-0).
n Collinwood 63, Santa Fe 39: Hunter Andrews scored 19 points to lead Collinwood to a big victory over Santa Fe in the Trojans’ season opener.
Kelly Ray added 13 points and Aldon Little john scored 10 for the Trojans.

n Waterloo 56, Cherokee 15: Braidi Morris scored 14 points and Baylee Atkinson added 12 to lead Waterloo in a season-opening win.
Tara Emerson’s 8 points paced Cherokee (0-2).
n Wayne County 41, Hickman County 31: Wayne County opened up a 13-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 41-31 victory over Hickman County.
Wayne County (2-0) was led by Stacey Creecy with 12 points.
n Collinwood 67, Santa Fe 42: Collinwood roared out to a hot start and never looked back in a win over Santa Fe.
Laken Arnett led Collinwood (1-0) with 18 points while Alexis Haddock added 16 in the victory.
