Chief's termination hearing continues today

SHEFFIELD — The Civil Service appeal hearing of terminated Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray continues today.

The appeal hearing began Jan. 31 and was adjourned about 7 p.m. The proceedings were to reconvene today at 1 p.m.

Ray, 54, was terminated Oct. 26 after being given a choice of resigning or facing termination because of performance issues, Mayor Ian Sanford said at the time.

Ray has appealed the termination to the Civil Service board.

He is being represented by Florence attorneys Tony Hughes and James Irby.

The hearing is being held in the second floor courtroom of Sheffield City Hall.
