Thank you for the excellent editorial, which addressed the stunning failure of the Lauderdale County school board.
There has actually been a lot of talk about the student being at fault for recording a horrible rant by a coach. Students can’t just walk out when offended by vulgar language and poor English. This student is to be commended for having courage.
This tirade was sickening and repulsive on so many levels it’s hard to know where to begin. The terrible grammar and vulgar terms were shocking. How can a teacher be allowed to teach if he doesn’t have basic skills that should have been learned in elementary school?
Michelle Obama is 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches and her weight is well within limits for her height and frame. Her father, though suffering from MS and depending on a walker in later years, provided for his family and educated his children by working for the city of Chicago as a laborer. He taught his children respect for every person and how to live with dignity.
Are we content to turn out another generation that can’t compete in college or get a decent job because they have not been taught the skills they need to succeed in the world? Another generation that gets its facts from the good folks at Fox, who spew hate and discontent every day?
Are the people of Alabama content to let their children grow up in this climate of hate and racism? The answer is sad, sickening and all too apparent.
