Colbert County defeats Deshler

TUSCUMBIA — Sam Howard scored 18 points and Malik Hamilton added 17 as Colbert County upended Deshler 61-57 on Saturday in boys basketball.

Deshler rallied from an 11-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter before the Indians pulled it out at the end.

Tobias Qualls added 14 points for the Indians.

Thomas Gamble's 15 points led Deshler (3-4). B.J. Bailey finished with 13 points and Terrance Byrd added 12.

Decatur 49, Muscle Shoals 47: Decatur snapped a three-game losing streak, holding off winless Muscle Shoals.

The Red Raiders made two free throws with 121 seconds to play and then watched as Jake Wood's long 3-pointer went off the back of the rim at the buzzer to celebrate a win for only the third time in eight games.

Na'Vante Williams led Decatur (3-5) with 18 points. Kaleb Smith added 16, including a pair of key 3-pointers in a 15-5 third quarter run.

No other Red Raider made it into double figures.

Wood had 17 points, including five 3-pointers.

Debo Reeder chipped in with 13 points for Muscle Shoals (0-3).

Decatur won it at the free-throw line, hitting 15 of 18. Muscle Shoals made 4 of 5 free throws.

Decatur trailed 27-23 at the half before taking a 38-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Florence 87, Russellville 50: Austin Ricks scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the second quarter, as Florence cruised to a win.

The Falcons out-scored the Golden Tigers 33-13 in the second quarter and led 56-23 at halftime.

Chaunce Watkins added 19 points and Isaac Dillard 11 for Florence (7-3).

Jackson Smith's 19 points paced Russellville (4-5), while Lucas Witt added 14.

Tharptown 63, Rogers 58: Tharptown raced out to a huge lead after three quarter and almost watched it be erased before hanging on to beat Rogers.

After the game was tied at 16 following the first quarter, Tharptown outscored Rogers 40-21 over the second and third quarters to take a 56-37 lead.

However, Rogers came roaring back in the fourth, outscoring the Wildcats 21-7. However, the hole was too large to climb out of.

Kelby Hallmark led Tharptown (8-5) with 21 points while Riley Nolen scored 14 and Max Nolen added 11.

Rogers was led by Caleb Morrow with 14 points and Brady Murks with 13.

Marion County 83, Phillips 71: Tyler Crumpton scored 30 points, including seven 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough as Marion County won a shoot-out with Phillips in the Northwest Alabama Conference Tournament.

Crumpton's hot shooting wasn't enough to overcome Marion County's Sean Wallace and Deshawn Riebesehl, who combined for 53 points.

Wallace scored 27 while Riebesehl had 26.

Ready Swanigan added 18 points for Marion County (4-0)

Marion County jumped out to a 48-28 lead at halftime and cruised to victory in the second half.

In addition to Crumpton's 30 points, Phillips (7-2) was led by Rodney Camp with 16 and Jacob Feltman with 15.

Collinwood 63, McNairy 58: Collinwood trailed early but came back to defeat McNairy by five points.

McNairy led 17-12 after the first quarter, but Collinwood came back to cut the lead to 28-27 at halftime.

The Trojans then took the lead for good in the third quarter and pulled away for the win.

Logan Montgomery and Wesley Pigg led Collinwood with 15 points each while Kelby Ray added 11.

McNairy was led by C.J. Barnes with 29 points and Jonathan Nixon with 11.

Girls

West Limestone 64, Lauderdale County 48: Three players scored in double figures as West Limestone upset Class 3A, No. 1 Lauderdale County.

The Wildcats outscored Lauderdale County 23-4 in the second quarter to take control.

Cayla Carter led the way with 19 points, while Olivia Blankenship added 16 and Autumn Bates scored 13.

Karlee Brown led Lauderdale County (8-2) with 14 points. Chatara Cox scored 13 and Haley Avery added 12.

West Limestone hit five 3-pointers in the decisive second quarter.

Decatur 37, Muscle Shoals 29: Decatur snapped a six-game losing skid with a low-scoring win over Muscle Shoals.

Tierra Wallace led the Red Raiders (3-8) with 12 points. No other player scored more than six points for either team.

Decatur led 17-10 at the half and extended it to 25-16 after three quarters.

Shan Sherrod led Muscle Shoals with six points

Deshler 80, Colbert County 18: Jothani Dixon and Haley Carrier each sank four 3-pointers in a Deshler rout.

Dixon finished with a game-high 20 and Carrier had 12 for the Tigers (6-2, 1-1 Class 3A, Area 16).

Deshler pushed a 20-7 first-quarter lead to 44-7 by halftime.

McNairy 44, Collinwood 37: Mikaela Roland and Brianna Felts combined to score half of McNairy's points in a victory over Collinwood.

Roland scored 12 while Felts added 10 for McNairy. Collinwood was led By Laken Arnett with 13 points.

It was Collinwood's first loss on the season, as the Trojans dropped to 6-1.
