TUSCUMBIA — A Colbert County man remains in the Tuscumbia City Jail after he was arrested Saturday for attacking and choking his girlfriend, officials said.
Edward Lee Clay, 25, Streit Lane, Muscle Shoals, is charged with domestic violence strangulation and unauthorized use of a vehicle, police said. The warrants were issued Monday.
Tuscumbia police detective Sgt. Stuart Setliff said Clay is accused of attacking his girlfriend Saturday at her residence on John Aldridge Street.
According to reports, the 26-year-old woman who lives in Tuscumbia got upset with Clay after she found something inside his car.
“From what we understand, they got into an argument, which led to Clay attacking her,” Setliff said.
He said the woman told authorities Clay grabbed her, threw her on the bed and choked her until she passed out.
“She said when she came to he started slamming her head against the bed,” Setliff said.
Police said the woman reported they continued to fight and she ended up on the floor where she was choked into unconsciousness once again.
“She said when she came to he reached into her bra got $60 and got the keys to her car and left,” Setliff said.
He said the woman called 911 and after police arrived, Clay returned a short time later and was taken into custody.
Clay was in Tuscumbia City Jail on Monday without bail.
