Cole concedes to Shoemaker in Tuscumbia mayor's race

Tuscumbia Mayor Bill Shoemaker announces to his supporters at Claunch Cafe' that his opponent David Cole has called and congratulated him on winning the election.

TUSCUMBIA — Challenger David Cole has conceded to Mayor Bill Shoemaker in today’s municipal runoff.

Shoemaker captured 711 votes to Cole’s 499.

Cole is the city’s fire chief.

The race was the only item on Tuscumbia’s runoff ballot.

In the Aug. 28 city election, Shoemaker received 47.6 percent of the votes. Cole had 28 percent and Kerry Underwood received 24 percent, bringing the election to today’s runoff.
