The Alabama Forestry Commission and the Colbert and Lauderdale County forestry commissions will give away tree seedlings today in conjunction with Arbor Week.
Seedlings will be available at the Colbert County office at 1101 U.S. 72 in Tuscumbia, and at the Lauderdale County office at 1212 Waterloo Road in Florence.
The giveaway will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until all the seedlings are gone.
More than 150,000 seedlings were grown last year at the Hopper Nursery at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
“We hope families across Alabama will take part in Arbor Week and share the joy of planting trees. It’s a great way to improve our communities and make them greener,” state Forester Linda Casey stated in a release.
Arbor Day began in 1872 and is observed in all 50 states and throughout the world.
