CORNERSVILLE. Tenn. — Wayne County was unable to deliver against Cornersville’s passing attack Friday night and slipped further down in the Region standings with a 21-18 road loss.
The Bulldogs dominated much of the game, but Jacob Bevis’ 96-yard run on the game’s final play brought Wayne County to within the final three-point margin. Bevis had 210 rushing yards on 19 carries.
That performance was over shadowed by Cornersville (3-4, 2-2) quarterback Hayden McMahon, who passed for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring strikes went to Stone Riner on plays of 10 and 74 yards.
Cornersville’s other touchdown came in the third quarter on Chance Dyer’s 6-yard run.
Wayne County (2-5, 1-3) trailed 14-6 at halftime, with Chase Camfield grabbing a 17-yard touchdown pass from Keeton Kelly in the second quarter.
Kelly found Ian Powell for a 34-yard touchdown in the third quarter for the Wildcats, but the only other threat came on Bevis’ 96-yard run to end the game.
