Council votes to seek grants for road repairs
By Hannah Mask

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville City Council have voted to apply for nearly $460,000 in Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation Improvement Program money to improve two turning lanes.

The program, commonly called ATRIP, allows counties to submit applications each year in hopes of receiving a portion of the $200 million to $300 million in federal money that will be available to the state each year for the next five years.

Mayor Troy Oliver said the west turning lane at the intersection of Lagrange Road and U.S. 243 needs to be redone to reduce accidents. As it is, only one car can fit in the turning lane, while westbound cars back up traffic.

Other portions of the funding would go to improve the intersection of Madison Street and U.S. 43.
