Virginia Faye Skelton, 72, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Monday and will continue until 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grissom Chapel Holiness Church. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Grissom Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. William Gary Crowden, 73, of Florence, passed away Feb. 10, 2013, at ECM Hospital, after an extended illness. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Jacksonburg Church of Christ followed by the service at 3:30 p.m., with Gary Gooch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Crowden was a retired heavy equipment operator for TVA and a member of Jacksonburg Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Howard Crowden and Margaret Lee Crowden, and a brother, James H. Crowden.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Crowden; sons, Darren Crowden (Jennifer), Randy Crowden and Mark Crowden (Sandra); sister, Carolyn Moore; niece, Tina Reatherford; grandchildren, Emily Anderson (Keith), Sarah Oakley (Eric) and Tara Crowden; great-grandchildren, Noah, Benjamin and Isaac.
Pallbearers will be Darren Crowden, Randy Crowden, Mark Crowden, Keith Anderson, Eric Oakley and Sloan Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Reatherford, Jimmy Reatherford, Mickey Reatherford, Jim Coble, James R. Clemmons and Jr. Behel.

Kimberly Dale Brewer, 54, of Tuscumbia, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today in Glendale Cemetery, with Brother Charlie James officiating.
Kim was a member of Avalon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Mae Aycock.
She is survived by her father, John Robert Aycock; sons, Randle Wayne Brewer and Marcus Anthony Brewer; her brother, Roger Wayne Aycock; sister, Belinda Kaye Willingham; and three grandchildren.

Johnnie Ray Davis, 83, of Florence, passed away Feb. 11, 2013, at his residence. He was the minister of Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Brother James Phillips and Brother Charles Hunt. Burial will follow in Community Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Phoebe Davis; brothers, James, Bobby, Ledford and Billy Davis; sister, Chris Nobles; and granddaughter, Carrie Parrish.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma Stutts Davis; son, Jonathan Davis (Sherrie), of Florence; daughters, Kathy Parrish (Tommy), Rhonda Gist (Allen), Beth Anders (Tim); sisters, Hassie Franks, Kathleen Clanton, Gertie May, all of Florence; grandchildren, Todd Parrish (Jenny), Jill Farris (Justin), Nick Gist (Nathalie), Brandon Davis (Malana), Matthew Davis (Jana), Paul and Michael Anders, all of Florence; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Brycen Parrish, Kelby and Kendan Farris, Addison and Daisy Davis, Mylan Anders, all of Florence.

Lena Marie Sledge Herston, 86, of Florence, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Shane Swinney officiating. Interment will be at Butler Cemetery.

Mrs. Herston was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She worked at E.C.M. Hospital as a nurse for 30-plus years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Herston; parents, Arthur and Ruthie Sledge; four sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include children, Arthur Mac Herston (Patrice), Stanley Don Herston (Elvira), Jeanie M. Webb, Laura Jane Brewer;
five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lamb was a native of Colbert County. He was a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran, a member of the 101st Airborne in the U.S. Army and was retired from B.A.S.F.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Lamb; his mother, Nina Lamb; his son, Ryan Brett Lamb; and his daughter, Shannon Lynn Lee; his sisters, Johnnie Lamb, Nora Brown, and Debbie Lamb; and four grandchildren.

Jeneane Audrey Stein, 82, of Killen, formerly of Minneapolis, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013. There will be a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at The Church of the Shoals.
She was a member of The Church of the Shoals and a graduate of the University of North Dekota. She was a medical social worker with Chisago County in Minneapolis. She was previously a salvation army ordained minister/officer along with her husband, Robert.
Survivors are her husband, Robert L. Stein; son, Robert M. Stein (Laurie); daughter, Michelle Dekel (Tal); sister, Darlene Rezentes; brother, Ardell J. Abrahamson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Raymond Anthony Tomaszewski, 80, of Tuscumbia, died Sunday, Feb., 10, 2013. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church, with his funeral mass following at 11 a.m. Father Don Forsythe will officiate, and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Tomaszewski was a native of Gaylord, Mich., served in the Army from 1954-56, was retired from Reynolds Metals and was employed with Foremost Dairies for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Angeline (Nellie) Damer Tomaszewski; wife, Maudine Tomaszewski; and daughter-in-law, Leslie Tomaszewski.
He is survived by his sons, Gary and Tim; and loving daughter-in-law, Laine; grandchildren, Brandi, Kevin and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Paige and Kylie; and his loving dog and companion, Abby.
Pallbearers are Gerald Robbins, Ed Knoblock, Wayne Chaney, Cecil Mitchell, Mark Pettus, Hunter Killen, Kevin Tomas, Tyler Tomas and Henry Long.
Honorary pallbearers are Troy Brewer Jr., Joel Brown, Steve Bigbee and all his City Restaurant coffee shop buddies.

Kathryn Johnson Welborn, 91, of Sheffield, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Facility. Her visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will be graveside at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield, at 12:30 p.m., with Bill Bedsole officiating.
Kathryn was born Frances Kathryn Johnson in 1921 in the McGee community on Old Savannah Highway. Her family later moved to Sheffield, where she graduated from City of Sheffield Schools, including Sheffield High School in 1938. That school year was punctuated by the burning of the high school building necessitating classes being held in the Colbert Movie Theater on Montgomery Avenue. Graduation ceremonies were held in the Sheffield City Park of Whipporwill Hollow.
Kathryn attended Florence State College and Larimore School of Business. Upon graduation, she became secretary to Colonel I.E. Willson who proved to be a major benefactor of Sheffield City Schools. Her career with Colonel Willson was interrupted by childbirth in 1942. Impressed by her performance as his employee, Colonel Willson helped her become employed by the Alabama State Employment Office from which she retired in 1983.
Kathryn was the daughter of George W. Johnson Sr. and Kate Hale Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph (Big Moose) Welborn, of Sheffield; parents; and two brothers, G. W. Johnson, who retired from Southern Railway, and John Clifford Johnson, of Elizabethton, Tenn., who retired from TVA following transfer from Wilson Dam to the upper Tennessee TVA Tributary Dams in East Tennessee. She was predeceased by nephews, George Johnson and Jimmy Johnson, brothers of Jean Tanner, of Tuscumbia.
She is survived by her two children, Kathy Hickman, of Sheffield, and William R. Welborn Jr., of Sheffield.
Grandchildren include Jim McGuffey and Charlie McGuffey, of Huntsville, Bo McGuffey, of San Antonio, Texas, as well as William R. (Will) Welborn III, of Nashville, and Kate Welborn, of Chicago.
Kathryn also is survived by her nephew, John C. Johnson, a retinologist and owner of Johnson Eye Clinic in Johnson City, Tenn.
During her retirement, Kathryn particularly enjoyed assisting with Ritz Theater sales supporting Tennessee Valley Center for the Arts as well as participation in classes and groups associated with the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, where she was a lifetime member.
Kathryn loved her parents, extended family, co-workers, children and grandchildren. She loved feeding birds, adopting abandoned dogs and cats and Alabama football.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, Sheffield Public Library, Tennessee Valley Center for the Arts or to charities of your choice; in particular those who give sustenance to the abandoned and downtrodden, be they humans or other of God’s creatures.

Marty Gene Woods, 35, a native of Lauderdale County, passed away Feb. 9, 2013. He was a graduate of Wilson High School and employed at Lauderdale County Board of Education.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with Terry Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cypress Inn, Tenn.
Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arvel and Bonnie Woods.
He is survived by his son, Brody Woods; mother, Brenda Eck Terry and stepfather, Ricky Eck; brother, Joe Eck and wife, Ashley; sister, Carrie Woods VanEtten and husband, Boyd; nieces, Taylor and Kadence; nephew, Dalton; several aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Active pallbearers will be Sam Pierce, Donnie Oakley, Bennie Sharpston, Jamie Sharpston, Barry Hamm and David Liles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Jones and Brad Parker.
Marty was a loving father, son and brother and he will be greatly missed by many. We love you Marty.
