TUSCUMBIA — Terrance Byrd ran for two touchdowns and Rhett Morrison kicked a pair of field goals as Deshler defeated Colbert County 54-28 tonight.
Deshler improved to 4-3 and 3-2 in Class 3A, Region 8. Colbert County dropped to 5-2, 3-2.
Byrd's scores came on runs of 60 yards and 1 yard. Morrison had field goals of 31 and 24 yards.
Zach Garner's 55-yard interception return and Taj Bates' 19-yard run provided Deshler's other first-half scores as it built a 33-7 halftime lead.
The Tigers extended the lead to 40-7 on a 22-yard pass from Justin Cantrell to Juakeem Fuqua. Deshler added touchdowns on Blake Rivera's 86-yard kickoff return and Tyreck Ricks' 51-yard run.
Colbert County had an early 7-3 lead after Tobias Qualls' 90-yard kickoff return following Morrison's first field goal.
Tobias Qualls added a 24-yard touchdown run on a reverse in the second half. The Indians' final two touchdowns came on Ryan Carpenter's 5-yard run and a 28-yard pass from Tyler Jeffreys to Kearvae Qualls.
