Staff reports

CLEMENTS — Justin Cantrell threw four touchdown passes in the first half Friday night as Deshler built a huge lead en route to a 56-6 rout of Clements.

BJ Bailey and Brandon Creasy each caught two scoring passes from Cantrell as Deshler built a 42-0 halftime lead.

It was the fifth consecutive win for Deshler (6-3, 5-2), which finished in third place in Class 3A, Region 8 and will travel for a first-round playoff game in two weeks.

Blake Rivera got Deshler off to a quick start when he returned the opening kickoffs 80 yards to the Clements 10. After a 15-yard penalty on the Tigers, Cantrell hit Bailey for a 25-yard scoring pass and Deshler led 7-0.

The Tigers recovered the ball when Clements failed to cover the ensuing kickoff. Chandler Brown capped a 3-play, 32-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run that made it 14-0.

Cantrell then threw touchdown passes of 34 and 18 yards to Creasy to put the Tigers up 28-0.

A 6-yard touchdown run by Terrence Byrd and a 7-yard scoring pass from Cantrell to Bailey gave Deshler a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Deshler’s starters did not play in the second half. Tyrick Ricks ran for 116 yards in the second half, scoring on runs of 31 and 53 yards as Deshler extended the lead to 56-0 early in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers will close out the regular season at home next week against North Jackson.
