By Tom Smith

FLORENCE — A Florence man faces felony charges for reportedly leaving the scene of an accident that killed a seventh-grade student at Central School on Monday night.

Da’Santo “Tay” Ingram, 13, 251 Lauderdale 457, Florence, died at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver, authorities said

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. in front of the child’s house on Lauderdale 457, which is also known as Hendrix Road.

State troopers said Ingram was struck by a 1984 Chevrolet truck traveling east on Hendrix Road.

The driver, James O’Neal Wilson, 42, 1305 Sunnyside St., Florence, is in the Lauderdale County Detention Center, charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, officials said.

Authorities said more charges are pending.

Counselors and local youth ministers met with seventh-grade students at Central High School this morning to discuss the incident.

State troopers are still investigating the incident.
