Flags for the fallen
Matt McKean/TimesDaily
Mike Ehredt takes a break from his cross-country run at the Alabama and Mississippi state line on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Ehredt is running from International Falls, Minn., to Corpus Christi, Texas, commemorating the fallen soldiers from Afghanistan.

Mike Ehredt, of Project America Run, took his journey on foot through Cherokee about 1 p.m. Tuesday. He is in the midst of his second running project to honor fallen soldiers from Afghanistan. Having launched his second journey in International Falls, Minn., he'll end it in Corpus Christi, Texas. Along the way he plants a U.S. flag every mile in honor of the soldiers. His first journey, Project America Run 1, took Ehredt from coast to coast in recognition of soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq.
