Florence avenges overtime loss to James Clemens
Staff reports

Florence avenged an overtime loss to James Clemens earlier this season with a 49-39 victory in boys

basketball action Friday night.

The Falcons helped themselves greatly at the free throw line, as they knocked down 11 of 12 shots from the charity stripe.

Chaunce Watkins scored 18 points to lead Florence (14-3, 1-2 area).

n Deshler 81, Clements 64: Deshler turned a close game at halftime into a rout with a big third quarter.

Thomas Gamble led Deshler (7-7, 2-2) with 21 points while B.J. Bailey scored 16, Chandler Brown had 15 and Zach Garner added 10.

n R.A. Hubbard 62, Covenant Christian 26: R.A. Hubbard kept its record perfect with an easy win at Covenant Christian.

Austin Beasley finished with 14 points for Hubbard (6-0). Tevin Kay added 11 and John Owens 10 for the Chiefs. Sam Griffin scored seven points for Covenant Christian.

n Shoals Christian 47, Waterloo 35: Shoals Christian then outscored Waterloo 17-3 in the third period en route to a road win over the Cougars.

Daniel Wood finished with 17 points and Matthew Russ had 13 to lead the Flame. Wayne Darby paced Waterloo with 18 points.

n Buckhorn 62, Muscle Shoals 48: Buckhorn outscored Muscle Shoals 25-5 in the opening quarter and the Trojans were unable to recover falling at home.

Blake Goodwin led Muscle Shoals (2-8) with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

n Athens 67, Russellville 46: Athens outscored Russellville 38-14 in the second and third quarters en route to a Class 5A, Area 16 win.

Caleb Robinson and Jacob Seal each scored 11 points for Russellville (5-9).

n Red Bay 64, Cherokee 57: Michael Ramirez knocked down four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points as Red Bay came from behind to beat Cherokee in Class 2A, Area 16 play.

Austin Humphres added 18 points for Red Bay. Dylan Harris paced Cherokee with 23 points and Austin Gooch had 10.

n Rogers 57, Lauderdale County 45: Caleb Morrow scored 22 points and Latham Thompson added 14 as

Rogers won at Lauderdale County.

Nathanial McCafferty led Lauderdale County (6-9) with 14 points.

n Phillips 58, Vina 20: Rodney Camp scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first period as Phillips pounded Vina. Tyler Crumpton added 12 points for the Bears (13-3).

n Haleyville 53, Brooks 50: Dakota Rushing led Haleyville with 13 points in a victory at Brooks. Jacob Richardson scored 15 points and Skyler Beck had 11 for Brooks (11-5).

n Belgreen 81, Tharptown 59: Josh Devaney had a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds for Belgreen (12-3, 6-1) in an area win.

Brock Hester scored a game-high 25 points, while Chase Landers added 21. Riley Nolen (17) and Kelby Hallmark (15) led Tharptown.

n Columbia Academy 58, Collinwood 55: Hunter Cary sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer, as Columbia Academy overcame Collinwood’s comeback bid.

Wesley Pigg scored 15 points and Logan Montgomery added 11 for Collinwood (8-4).

Girls

n Deshler 60, Clements 42: Deshler used a big third quarter to overcome a one-point halftime deficit and cruise to a win over Clements in a region game.

Jothani Dixon led Deshler (10-4, 3-1) with 21 points while Lauren Cantrell and Keyonda Mason each had 13.

n Lauderdale County 69, Rogers 46: Lauderdale County raced out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a victory over Rogers.

Lauderdale County (16-2) had a balanced scoring

attack, led by Chatara Cox with 15 points. Karlee

Brown added 11 points while Ivy Wallen chipped in with 10.

Lindsey Hamner led Rogers with 12 points while Brodie Belcher had 10.

n Hatton 38, Colbert County 30: Sydney Terry scored six of her 13 points in the fourth period to help

Hatton hold off Colbert

County.

Addie Carter finished with eight points eight steals and five assists for Hatton (8-9). Mya Newsome paced Colbert County with 14 points.

n Brooks 58, Haleyville 28: Brooks remained unbeaten in Class 4A, Area 15 play with an easy victory against Haleyville.

Erin Jewell scored 13 points and Kelly Brewer finished with 10 to lead Brooks (8-9, 3-0 area).

n Hackleburg 52, South Lamar 16: Hackleburg jumped out to a 19-3 lead after one period en route to a blowout of South Lamar.

Kristen Camp and Paula Camp scored eight points each to lead the Panthers (6-5).

n Loretto 46, Wilson 34: Loretto outscored Wilson 31-19 in the second half to nab a road win.

Rachel Burden led Loretto with 13 points. Ciarra Edwards led Wilson with 16.

n Covenant Christian 76, R.A. Hubbard 63: Bailey Hill scored 35 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Anna Claire Noblit added 33 points, including seven 3-pointers, as Covenant Christian (17-1) downed R.A. Hubbard (5-2) in Class 1A, Area 16 play.

Oresha Sherrod led R.A. Hubbard with 16 points.

n Buckhorn 50, Muscle Shoals 30: Olivia Howard scored a game-high 16 points as Buckhorn beat Muscle Shoals.

DaNesha Byrd led Muscle Shoals (2-8) with 13.

n Collinwood 57, Columbia Academy 23: Laken Arnett led Collinwood (11-1) with 15 points, while Lexie Risner made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 in a victory over Columbia Academy.

n Vina 42, Phillips 22: Vina (10-5) outscored Phillips 13-4 in the opening quarter and never looked back to claim a Class 1A, Area 15 win.

Vina’s Morgan Humphres led all scorers with 14 points.

Raven Lolley had 9 for Phillips.

n Shoals Christian 41, Waterloo 24: Freshman Kyra Agnew scored a game-high 12 points as Shoals Christian went on the road to knock off Waterloo in Class 1A, Area 16 play.

Bradi Morris led Waterloo (3-16) with 9 points.

n James Clemens 55, Florence 40: The Jets jumped out to 30-20 halftime lead and outscored Florence 12-3 in the final quarter to claim a Class 6A, Area 16 win.

Sophomore Alexis Sherrod scored 15 points for Florence.

n Tharptown 66, Belgreen 43: Juniors Kamri Sears and Danielle Creasy combined for 28 points as Tharptown improved to 10-4 on the season.

Allyson Bragwell scored 17 for Belgreen.

n Red Bay 72, Cherokee 11: Red Bay’s Kasey Sparks led all scorers with 12 points, while Elizabeth Wooten and Morgan Pierce each added 11 in a victory over Cherokee.
