FLORENCE — One witness is expected to conclude direct testimony for RegionalCare Hospital Partners on Monday as the contested case hearing for two proposed health care facilities moves into the second week.
Noel Falls, a health care consultant from Fairhope, will testify Monday when the hearing resumes at 9 a.m. at the Marriott Shoals.
Falls, of Falls Marketing Group, developed the certificate of need applications for the 300-bed replacement hospital and comprehensive cancer center proposed by RegionalCare Hospital Partners for Florence. RegionalCare owns Florence’s Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital and Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals.
Falls has been present for the testimony and questioning presented through the first week of the contested case hearing. Nearly 30 witnesses testified on behalf of ECM and RegionalCare about the need for the two proposed projects. Those witnesses included a dozen elected officials, doctors, community representatives and health care administrators from ECM and RegionalCare.
At the conclusion of Falls’ testimony, which is expected to last all of Monday, attorneys for Helen Keller Hospital and Alliance Oncology will begin their cases. Alliance Oncology operates two freestanding radiation oncology clinics in the Shoals — Bethesda Regional Cancer Center and Valley Regional Cancer Center.
Helen Keller representatives have said they oppose the size of the planned hospital and its possible impact on Helen Keller.
Alliance Oncology opposed duplication of services their representatives said will occur if another radiation oncology service is licensed.
During the first week of testimony, Alliance Oncology’s attorneys said they were interested in a possible partnership between hospitals and their cancer centers.
