LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — Authorities said a man is in jail on a grand jury indictment accusing him of raping a teenage boy in 2011.
Christopher Lee Eddins, 39, 30 Hawthorn Drive, Lawrenceburg, is charged with rape after being indicted in the January grand jury session in Lawrence County, courthouse officials said.
Authorities said Wednesday the boy was 13 at the time the incidents reportedly happened in 2011. The allegation was not reported until July 2012.
“The victim was afraid to come forward,” said investigator Lt. Nathan Neese, of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
Neese said about a year passed before the boy told what happened.
Reports indicate the boy was raped at least twice. The boy, who reportedly knows Eddins, was not physically injured.
“The department of child services have been working with the boy,” Neese said.
Eddins faces a sentence of 15-60 years in prison, if convicted.
Statistics from the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network show most juvenile rape victims know their attackers.
Those statistics point out that about 3 percent of American men have been a victim of an attempted rape or rape, and 2.78 million men in the U.S. have been victims of sexual abuse or rape.
Eddins will appear in Lawrence County Circuit Court on March 11.
