GREENHILL — A Lauderdale County woman died at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital just before 5 p.m. Monday from injuries sustained in a two-car accident.
Donna Davis Argueta, 51, 5147 Lauderdale 36, Killen, died at the hospital, according to state troopers at the Quad-Cities post.
She was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m., an ECM spokesman said.
Troopers said the accident occurred at 3:52 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 43 and Alabama 64 in the Greenhill community.
John Glen Cornelius, 33, 5141 Lauderdale 73, Killen, was injured in the two-car accident, troopers said.
Officials said Argueta was driving a 1994 Honda Civic westbound on Alabama 64, attempting to cross U.S. 43. Cornelius was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima.
Emergency crews said Cornelius was taken to ECM, but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Authorities at the scene said Argueta’s car was struck in the driver’s door. The car ended up on off the roadway on the west side of U.S. 43 near a ditch.
Firefighters with the Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate Argueta from the vehicle.
The accident occurred seconds after state troopers had arrived at the intersection to investigate a non-injury accident.
Officials said the trooper had just gotten out of his patrol car when the accident occurred.
Argueta is the 50th person to die in traffic accidents this year in northwest Alabama and the southern Tennessee counties of Lawrence and Wayne.
She is the second traffic fatality this month.
