Lauderdale doctor pleads guilty in fraud case

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A Lauderdale County physician has pleaded guilty to nearly $1 million in fraud.

U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance said 55-year-old Diana McCutcheon of Killen pleaded guilty Wednesday to health care fraud and wire fraud. The charges involved billing Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare for cosmetic skin treatments that weren't reimbursable. They included treatments for sun spots, age spots and wrinkles that were billed as removal of skin lesions. She agreed to forfeit more than $990,000 to the government as proceeds of her illegal activity.

She is scheduled for sentencing March 11. Health care fraud carries a sentence of up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine. Wire fraud carries a sentence of up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine.
