Man charged with exchanging loot

RUSSELLVILLE — Police said a Russellville man is in jail after he was seen on video from a local business returning items stolen during a house burglary.

Carl Clinton Hall, 34, 414 Cotaco St., Russellville, is charged with third-degree burglary, said Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett.

Hargett said Hall is accused of breaking into a residence in the 100 block of Jennifer Street. The burglary was reported Oct. 1.

Russellville police investigation Lt. Scotty Lowery said Hall is accused of taking several tools from the residence.

"Then he took the tools to Wal-Mart and told them he wanted to return the tools. So, they were exchanged for an in-store gift card," Lowery said.

Lowery said the homeowner knew Hall and suspected him of taking the items.

"During the course of the investigation, we began tracking (Hall) and got information that he might have gone to Wal-Mart," Lowery said. "We watched the surveillance video and sure enough he was there exchanging the stolen items, as if they were his."

Hall is out of jail on bail of $2,500.
