Man accused of injuring girlfriend

FLORENCE — A Florence man is in jail after police said he kicked his girlfriend repeatedly, causing her injuries, authorities said.

Scott Alan Hawkins, 48, 1109 Colorado Ave., Florence, is charged with domestic violence second-degree assault, police said.

Florence police detective Kevin Jackson said the 49-year-old woman who was reportedly attacked remains in the hospital. Jackson said she suffered a broken sternum, three broken ribs and had bruising all over her body.

Jackson said the incident reportedly occurred Sunday at Hawkins’ residence.

Reports show Hawkins told investigators the injuries were a result of his girlfriend falling.

“Witnesses said he kicked her a number of times,” Jackson said.

Hawkins is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bail because of prior arrests.

Police searching for theft suspect

FLORENCE — Warrants have been issued for a Florence man authorities said used a stolen credit card more than a dozen times at area businesses and made withdrawals at automatic tellers.

Police say they are looking for Willie James Ivory, 40, whose last known address is on Cypress Mill Road. They said Ivory has not lived there for months.

Reports indicate Ivory is wanted for second-degree theft of property and 13 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Investigators said Ivory is accused of taking a credit card from a residence on Wildwood Park Road on Sept. 18 and tried to use it to make purchases.

Florence police detective Jerry Pearson said Ivory used the credit card 13 times
Sept. 20.

“He was able to purchase an iPad and take $1,000 from ATMs,” Pearson said. “In some cases, he tried to use the card but the transaction was denied.”

Pearson said Ivory is 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighs 260 pounds.
