Woman arrested over fake checks

FLORENCE — A local woman is in jail after authorities said she used fake checks to withdraw $3,000 from an account.

Brogan Calli Johnson, 21, 510 N. Broadway St., Florence, is charged with first-degree theft of property and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Florence police detective Drew Harless said the drug charge was added when officers found prescription pills in her possession at the time of her arrest.

Harless said Johnson is accused of getting fake checks from the Internet.

“She deposited more than $5,000 during a four-day period in October,” Harless said. “She was able to withdraw $3,000 in cash before the bank discovered the checks were worthless.”

Johnson is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

A DVD player and DVD stereo were taken from a 1997 black Ford F-150 parked in the 400 block of Davis Street.

A golf bag and clubs were taken from a car parked in the 100 block of White Oak Lane.

A .45-caliber pistol, $25, check card, and debit and credit cards were taken from a 2012 Jeep Wrangler parked in the 100 block of Ana Drive.

A GPS unit, two iPods, an iPhone and sunglasses were taken from a 2012 black Honda Accord parked in the 1800 block of East Tannehill Drive.

Criminal mischief

A wall was damaged at a residence in the 1900 block of Chisholm Road.

A 2003 red Chevrolet S-10 truck was damaged while parked in the 600 block of East Tennessee Street.

A residence was damaged in the 2000 block of Houston Street.

Burglary

A front door was damaged at a residence in the 1000 block of Terrace Street when someone tried to break in. Nothing was reported taken.

A computer game system and television were taken from a residence in the 1700 block of Sherrod Avenue.

A safe, $1,000, computer game system, digital camera and debit card were taken from a residence in the 1200 block of Alpine Village.

Two laptops, television, watch and more than $230 in cash were taken from a residence in the 1200 block of Graham Avenue.

A television was taken from a residence in the 1000 block of Military Road.

A television was taken from a residence on Pine Street.

Thefts

An iPhone and $100 were taken from a residence in the 200 block of Heathrow Drive.

An iPad was taken from a business in the 600 block of Cox Creek Parkway.

Recovered property

A 1995 Chevrolet C-1500 truck, reported stolen, was recovered on Cane Creek Road, Cherokee.

Jewelry and five guns reported stolen were recovered at a business on Woodward Avenue, Muscle Shoals.
