Florence woman faces new charge

ATHENS — A Lauderdale County woman is facing an additional charge of promoting prison contraband after a Limestone County Jail officer found marijuana on her Thursday while booking her into the jail.

Capt. Stanley McNatt said Amanda Leigh Jones, 39, 79 Lauderdale County 332, Florence, was arrested on a driving under the influence of a controlled substance charge when the officer found the pot in an inside pocket of her jacket.

In addition to the contraband and DUI charges, Jones has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and improper lights.

Jones remains in jail. Her bail is set at $6,500.

Fire destroys home on Lauderdale 112

CENTRAL HEIGHTS — A family escaped injury Thursday morning when their house was destroyed by a fire.

Firefighters from Oakland, Underwood-Petersville, Waterloo and Cloverdale assisted Central Volunteer Fire Department in battling the fire at a residence on Lauderdale 112.

"When we got there, it was fully involved," Central Volunteer Fire Chief Wesley Smith said.

Smith said the homeowners and their two children got out safely.

"They were already out of the house when we got there," Smith said.

Firefighters said the fire started in the back porch of the house near a freezer. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Smith said the American Red Cross was called to assist the family.

A 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix reported stolen was recovered at a residence on Park Place, Leighton.

Burglaries

Two Xbox360s, a 42-inch television, three rifles and two bottles of prescription medication were taken from a residence on Hawk Pride Mountain Road, Tuscumbia.

Various tools, a comic book collection, horseshoe cleaner, camping equipment, propane bottles, sleeping bags, set of golf clubs, a desk, love seat, shelves, three BB guns, a toy box and chest of doors were taken from a residence on Jones Road, Tuscumbia.

A 2008 Polaris four-wheeler, weed trimmer, toolbox and 12-foot utility trailer were taken from a residence in the 600 block of South Hook Street.

A Food Stamp card and prescription medication were taken from a residence in the 500 block of West First Street.

A motorcycle was taken from a residence in the 700 block of Shoemaker Drive.

Jewelry was taken from a residence in the 400 block of East Seventh Street.

Two 2013 four-wheelers were taken from a business in the 1600 block of U.S. 72.

Thefts

A cellphone, credit cards and $60 was taken from a residence in Carver Heights.

Copper and electrical items were taken from a cell tower on Hough Road.

Credit and debit cards, checks, Social Security card and $51 were taken from a residence in the 400 block of West Mobile Street.

Criminal mischief

A business in the 200 block of Ana Drive was damaged.

Breaking and entering

Various parts were taken from a 1998 black Lincoln Navigator parked in the 1200 block of Railroad Avenue.

Thefts

Clothing and a silver necklace with an Angel and diamonds were taken from a residence in the 100 block of Lauderdale 270, Florence.

A .357-caliber pistol was taken from a residence in the 7000 block of Lauderdale 50, Rogersville.

Burglaries

Two chain saws, a toolbox, various hand tools, food items, cookware, glasses, towels and metal milk crates with gallon glass bottles were taken from a residence in the 7000 block of Lauderdale 8, Waterloo. More than dozen windows and doors were damaged at the residence.

Breaking and entering

A GPS unit and a bottle of medication were taken from a vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Pinehurst Lane, Killen.

Checkbooks, a GPS unit, a necklace and three bottles of prescription pills were taken from a vehicle parked in the 2000 block of Lauderdale 219, Florence.

Criminal mischief

A 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SE was damaged while parked in the 100 block of Plantation Place, Florence.

Two televisions and a PlayStation3 were taken from a residence in the 100 block of Union Avenue.

A chain saw, compressor and jackhammer with case were taken from the 2500 block of Avalon Avenue.

Two cordless phones and $35 were taken from a residence in the 600 block of Tyler Avenue.

Criminal mischief

Two tires on a car parked in the 800 block of Pilgrim Avenue were damaged.

A 2002 Toyota was damaged while parked in the 1600 block of Sixth Street.

A 2013 Ford F-150 truck was damaged while parked in the 2600 block of Woodward Avenue.

A residence in the 3000 block of East Sixth Street was damaged.

A vehicle parked in the 400 block of Monroe Avenue was damaged.

A residence in the 400 block of South Wilson Dam Road was damaged.

Thefts

A key was taken from a residence in the 500 block of Michigan Avenue.

Four commemorative Vietnamese coins and a military lapel pin were taken from a residence in the 400 block of West Highland Avenue.

A 2012 Ford F-150 truck was taken from a business in the 2000 block of Woodward Avenue.
