Authorities probe steel post thefts

KILLEN — Lauderdale County authorities are investigating the theft of more than six dozen metal fence posts, officials said.

Investigators said the posts were taken from three locations on Lauderdale 69 (old Florence-Lexington Road) in Killen. Reports indicate 77 metal poles were taken.

"We have had scrap metal and copper stolen from places, and a fence post or two taken, especially during elections, but to have this many stolen at one time means whoever is responsible is stealing them and selling them at the scrap yards," Lauderdale County Sheriff Ronnie Willis said.

Anyone knowing anything about the stolen metal posts is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 256-760-5757 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
