A firefighter continues to pour water on the fire at the Flower Box in downtown Leighton. The business was destroyed late Thursday.

LEIGHTON — A downtown Leighton business was destroyed by fire late Thursday.

Firefighters from three volunteer departments worked nearly five hours to put out the fire at Flower Box on Main Street. They were dispatched to the scene at 5:15 a.m. today when the fire rekindled.

Officials said the florist business was a total loss. Firefighters from Leighton, White Oak and Brick-Hatton were dispatched to the business at 10:37 p.m. Thursday.

“I got the call just before 11 p.m. and when I got down there flames were visible throughout the building,” said Leighton Police Chief Brandon Hood. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
