Voter turnout in northwest Alabama reached near record levels during Tuesday's general election.
In all, 72,065 votes were cast in the tri-county area of Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties. The totals were:
Colbert: 23,589, compared to a previous high of 25,028 in the 2008 general election.
Franklin: 11,072, which is 800 fewer votes than were cast four years ago.
Lauderdale: 37.404, compared to the record of 38,507 set in 2008.
