Man accused of breaking girlfriend's bones
By Tom Smith

FLORENCE — A local man is in jail after police said he kicked his girlfriend repeatedly, breaking some of her bones, authorities said.

Scott Alan Hawkins, 48, 1109 Colorado Ave., Florence, is charged with domestic violence second-degree assault, police said.

Florence police detective Kevin Jackson said the 49-year-old victim remains in the hospital.

Jackson said she suffered a broken sternum, three broken ribs and bruising across her body.

Jackson said the incident reportedly happened Sunday at Hawkins’ residence.

Reports indicate Hawkins said the woman fell, causing the injuries.

“Witnesses said he kicked her a number of times causing the injuries,” Jackson said.

Hawkins is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bail at this time due to prior arrests.
