RUSSELLVILLE — A Russellville man is in jail on allegations that he sold stolen jewelry to a Muscle Shoals pawn shop, authorities said.
James Chris Spencer, 45, 704 Green Ave., Russellville, is charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said today.
Police said Spencer was arrested this morning and is being held in the Russellville City Jail without bail.
Spencer is accused of selling more then $3,000 worth of jewelry at a Muscle Shoals pawn shop, police detective Lt. Scotty Lowery said.
Lowery said the jewelry was reportedly stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Washington Avenue in early September. Reports indicate about $6,500 worth of jewelry was taken in the burglary.
“The owner of the jewelry located some of the pieces at the Muscle Shoals pawn shop,” Lowery said. “After talking with the business personnel and reviewing receipts, it was determined that Spencer was the one who sold the jewelry.
“He has refused to talk with us, so we can’t yet put him in the house and staking the jewelry, but he did have it in his possession when he sold it. We can charge him for that.”
Lowery said about $3,500 worth of jewelry is still missing.
Anyone knowing anything about the case is asked to contact police at 256-332-2230 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
