MUSCLE SHOALS — Mayor David Bradford has upheld the termination of former city police officer Greg Scoggins.

Scoggins was terminated after he shot and killed a deer, while on duty, on Tennessee Valley Authority property, officials said.

Scoggins’ attorneys, David Underwood and Johnnie Franks, presented testimony and evidence to Bradford Thursday during an informal appeal hearing.

The mayor said today his decision came after reviewing the “entire matter.”

“This was nothing we take lightly,” Bradford said. “The facts of the case stood for themselves. Being on duty and in uniform and committing the violation.

“We hold our officers to a high standard for their decisions.”

Bradford said Scoggins has 10 days to appeal his decision to the Civil Service Board.

Underwood said Thursday after the hearing with Bradford that his client was prepared to appeal to the Civil Service Board if necessary.
