Meteorologists warn of wintry mix early Friday

Staff reports

HUNTSVILLE — Officials with the National Weather Service in Huntsville issued a statement late Thursday afternoon warning of a possible wintry mix that could hamper travel a little early this morning.

According to the weather service, a wintry mix is possible this morning as the next storm system enters the region.

Precipitation may begin as a mix of rain, freezing rain, snow and sleet in northwest Alabama by 9 a.m.

A slight chance of a wintry mix is possible generally east of a line from Athens to Moulton during the morning.

A mix of rain and snow is possible during the later morning in all areas, but precipitation is expected to be all rain by noon.

Rain will continue through tonight.
