ST. FLORIAN — The tone of Carmen Miles’ voice Tuesday night said it all.
“I’m so excited and ready to get started,” Miles said after learning she had been elected to the Place 3 seat on the St. Florian Town Council.
Miles defeated Sandy Evers by 12 votes, 75-63.
“I’m a little disappointed, but I do thank everyone who came out to vote and supported me,” Evers said.
Evers said she hopes now that the election is over, the council and the community can work together.
“Hopefully now, we can focus on doing what is best for the town,” Evers said.
Miles attributed part of her success to getting out and meeting residents.
“I worked hard. I got out and went house to house,” she said. “I tried to meet everyone in town face to face. It was a lot of work, but it paid off.”
She said as she met individuals, they would talk about their ideas and wishes for the town.
“And I invited each one to come to Town Hall and get involved with the town and work with the council to make things happen here,” Miles said.
Miles, who served two previous terms on the council, said she was humbled by the vote.
She trailed Evers in the August election by 13 votes, 71-58.
“This means a lot to me for the people of St. Florian to come out and support me,” Miles said. “They put their confidence in me and I can’t wait to work for them.
“I’m ready to get the ball rolling.”
