Morning fires destroy two houses; occupants not injured

The TimesDaily

FLORENCE — Two fires more than two hours apart damaged two houses this morning, officials said.

Firefighters were called to 2610 Huntsville Road, which is next to John’s Shop Ezy, around 5:30 a.m.

Battalion Chief Terry Willett said flames were coming through the windows when firefighters arrived.

Willett said a woman and her daughter were inside the residence when the fire started but were able to get out unharmed.

Firefighters said the house was a total loss.

The second fire happened around 8 a.m. at a residence at 1325 Sunnyside Street.

Emergency personnel said smoke was visible when firefighters arrived.

Willett said the fire was in the attic of the house and firefighters were able to get it under control but it destroyed the residence.

He said two adults and two children were in that residence and were able to get out without being injured.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist.

The cause of the two fires is still under investigation.
