RUSSELLVILLE — State Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow and Sen. Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, will be meet Monday with Franklin County school officials and law enforcement authorities to discuss a school safety bill that Gov. Robert Bentley vetoed.
Morrow, D-Red Bay, said he called the meeting to discuss the issue, and to get direction from school officials and law enforcement personnel.
Morrow’s original bill would have made it voluntary for teachers to become reserve sheriff’s deputies or police officers, and put the responsibility of training and supervising them on local law enforcement.
The bill passed the Senate and House, but Bentley refused to sign it into law.
On Thursday, Morrow tried to get Bentley’s veto overridden, but failed.
He said he has reintroduced the bill and once it gets in committee he plans to make changes.
